Finished "Knowing God" with Ira

I finally finished the book that we are reading ("Knowing God" by J.I. Packer) with Ira.  This has been an amazing journey, a little over a month of reading, but it's worth it.  I guess it's harder to read a book with someone because you are dealing with two schedules instead of one.  But still the conversations between us are unforgettable and enjoyable.

Why I suggest this should be the book that others should read as they start the relationship.  Most of the time when there is someone dating, they take the dating books that talking about marriage, and which is good.  But don't pay that much attention on their faith, what they believe about God.  It's one thing that a guy would be telling a girl what he believes, and with that, uses the bible to prove his point.  But it's totally different when a professor, pastor, and a good influential respected Christian speak about the truth that are just too essential for our daily lives.  Too many people are worried about their relationship in how it's being developed (feeling wise), and few are actually worry about how their relationship in the view of their faith is carried on.

J.I. Packer reasons through a essential truth that the bible presents, with an careful application to our everyday life.  I was humbled by this man's mind, not expecting to be amazed by the gospel as much as I was.  This book raised some serous doctrinal issues where me and Ira took some time to discuss among each other in what do we acutely believe.  Do we agree with Packers conclusion, or did we thought that he was a little off (by the way, so far we agreed with most of the way how he explains and teaches).

This book brought us closely together in our minds as to what do we believe.  The title "Knowing God" is actually addresses some serious issues in that too many people think that they know God but in reality they didn't even came close to a God that exist.  I recommend not only for the people that are dating, but just grabbing this book for yourself (if you are single), and go through it slowly and carefully—we always need a good influential biblical person to teach and instruct us, and this could be done through this book: "Knowing God."

By the way, our next book is "When sinners say 'I Do.'"

I also recently started reading that book. I'm about half way through the book and there is so much I've learned already! I really love how simply, yet detailed the author addresses each issue.

Totally agree on detailed issues. I read this book second time and it was so clear as I understod what he is saying.

Why Job DID NOT cursed God?

http://www.skybluevaping.co.za/image/data/journal/1383-1.jpg The tone of the conversation was different when Satan appeared before God second time. Not because Satan repented or agreed with God, but because his hypothesis fell short.  Satan just destroyed Jobs wealth and his children (seven sons and three daughters) using evil men, fire, and wind arguing that this was the reason why Job served God in the first place. Job response to his lost was not a cursing God attitude but a humble worship.  “ Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return.  The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord ” (Job 1:20).    When Satan appears before God second time, God asked him the same question as he did in the first conversation,  "' Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and ...

The Last Moments of Christopher Hitchens life

Christopher Hitchens is one of the leading atheist of our times, they call it the new atheism now.  He also is the author of a book, “God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything,” that was just recently released; heavily opposing religion and any idea that God exist.  But right now Mr Hitchens is in his last stages of the esophageal cancer.  The New Your Time describes his last moments of life like this: “Some of these articles were written with the full consciousness that they might be my very last. Sobering in one way and exhilarating in another, this practice can obviously never become perfected.”  Another words, Hitchens has little time left. Smoking and drinking was something that Hitchens needed to quit, life was more important then the pleasures of these habits, not mentioning that he had a feeding tube installed since June.  He had power in articulating his worldview to others, the ideas, but were these thoughts the reality of our world? You...

Interpreting the Bible

The Right Hermeneutics   To understand the Bible (that was written about 2000 years ago), requires the right hermeneutics. The majority of Old Testament was written in Hebrew and the New Testament was written in Greek. 2000 years separates us from the day of Apostles (New Testament), but the Old Testament books were written long before that. Today we can see how cults use the bible to defense their heresies. Bible is read through out the world in many languages and not every person who teaches the bible have a seminary degree. Bible itself was not intended to be used by educated or scholarly people. John wrote, “The anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things” (1 John 2:27). Yet having stated that, ignorance is not an excuse to make dramatic interpretation mistakes. Bible is not a book to have it be used anyway someone desires to.  In fact, Bible as a book did...
